Ken Roczen stands as one of the most technically gifted and resilient riders in motocross and supercross history. Born in Mattstedt, Germany, Roczen was a prodigy who rose quickly through the European ranks before conquering America. Roczen’s career began in Europe, where he quickly established himself as a generational talent. At just 15 years old, he became the youngest rider to win an MX2 (250cc) Grand Prix, and by 17, he had secured the 2011 MX2 World Championship.

His success in Europe led to a full-time move to the United States in 2012 with Red Bull KTM, where he continued his winning ways in the 250 class before moving to the premier 450 division in 2014. His transition to the larger bike was seamless, as he immediately won the 2014 AMA Pro Motocross Championship in his rookie 450 season.

After another 450 Motocross title with Suzuki in 2016, Roczen joined Team Honda HRC in 2017, seemingly poised to dominate the sport for years to come. However, fate had other plans.

Overcoming Adversity

In January 2017, at the Anaheim 2 Supercross, Roczen suffered a catastrophic crash that resulted in a completely dislocated wrist, dislocated elbow, and compound fracture in his arm. The injury required multiple surgeries and a lengthy rehabilitation process with uncertain prospects for returning to racing.

Against all odds, Roczen returned to competition within a year, only to suffer another serious arm injury in 2018 that again required multiple surgeries. These back-to-back traumas would have ended most careers, but they only strengthened Roczen’s resolve.

His comeback journey has been nothing short of miraculous. Despite permanent limitations in arm mobility and strength, Roczen has returned to the highest levels of the sport, winning races and contending for championships. This resilience in the face of career-threatening injuries has earned him universal respect within the racing community.
