Motocross takes place on natural terrain tracks, utilizing the landscape to create challenging circuits with elevation changes, jumps, and technical sections. Unlike Supercross, these outdoor venues stretch across acres of land, creating longer lap times and a different style of racing that tests both speed and endurance.

Motocross Track Characteristics
#

Motocross tracks differ from Supercross venues in several key ways:

  • Natural Terrain: Utilizing the landscape’s natural features
  • Longer Lap Times: Typically 1.5-2.5 minutes per lap
  • Outdoor Elements: Weather and changing track conditions play a major role
  • Elevation Changes: Significant uphill and downhill sections
  • Variable Surfaces: From hard-pack to sand, loam, and mud
  • High-Speed Sections: Allowing for higher top speeds than stadium courses

Motocross tracks evolve throughout race day as ruts form and lines develop, requiring riders to adapt their approach through practice, qualifying, and the two main event motos.
