Venue Overview
Snapdragon Stadium is a state-of-the-art venue that opened in 2022 as the home of San Diego State University's football team. The stadium replaced the long-running San Diego/Qualcomm Stadium as the city's primary sports venue, and in 2023 it welcomed Supercross for the first time, continuing San Diego's rich history with the sport.
The stadium offers a more intimate viewing experience than its predecessor, with excellent sightlines from virtually every seat. Its modern amenities and accessibility have quickly made it a favorite among fans and industry professionals alike.
Track Characteristics
The San Diego track layout at Snapdragon Stadium typically features:
- Medium-length start straight leading to a wide first turn
- Technical rhythm sections with multiple options
- California-style soil that tends to get hard and slick as the night progresses
- Complex whoops sections that often become race-deciding factors
- Sand sections that are sometimes incorporated to add variability
Weather can be a factor at the San Diego round, as winter rain is not uncommon in Southern California and has created muddy conditions in past events. The track crew has become adept at preparing and maintaining the surface to mitigate weather effects.
